Away from the bustling life of the city lies the scintillating village of “Sembadu” in the Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. A small village filled with aspiring children who dare to dream big. Located in the centre, is the government school that holds close to 2000 students. The school provides education from 1st to the 8th grade and is teeming with ambitious minds.
Unfortunately, due to the financial instability the institution fails to meet the demands of these anxious learners. The students lack basic hands- on computer knowledge and are unable to keep pace with the booming technology. Communicating in English also forms a barrier since they are deprived of personal mentoring at home as their parents are uneducated.
Hence, in all “Good Hearts”, we have decided to adopt the Sembadu government school to help suffice the needs of these budding children. “Education is indeed a debt from the present to the future generations”. Therefore we have conceptualized a program called STC – Special training centre. Through STC we plan to provide individual help to the children from 6th to the 8th grade after regular school hours.
Our First STC was started on 16th of October 2008 at 6:00 p.m. with 45 students tutored by three teachers. Each teacher provides special attention to 15 students through the week from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. except on Sundays. Apart from this, STC will also conduct workshops by volunteers on Sundays. These workshops will cover diverse topics from computer education to communication skills, personal awareness and also provide exposure to the business world. This will indeed mould the students to achieve their goals.
On a longer run we intend to raise the quality of education by improving the infrastructure. We are keen on starting a library and installing computers to help them gain better practical knowledge. Plans of including all the students of the institution to the STC program are also on.
We truly believe that “Education is not filling a bucket but lighting a fire”. We would like to thank you for your undying support and encouragement in helping us bridge the gaps in the society.
